Who Are We?
For as long as Erin can remember, she has longed to work with children of all ages and abilities.
At the age of 15 Erin begun volunteering her time at the local Community Centres' Occasional Care before graduating from year 12 and beginning this fun filled amazing journey!
Throughout her teenage years she studied singing, completing her Grade 8 ANZCA Voice exam with Honours - 'I always new I loved music and singing, but my true calling was teaching others the techniques to succeed in the profession'
Using this knowledge and love, she completed her Diploma in music, and Certificate IV in Music Business all whilst teaching over 40 students per week.
After graduating, she begun her Bachelor of Education (Primary) whilst taking on an educators role in a vacation care setting, working alongside children with a variety of abilities - this soon turned into a certified supervisor role and the program co-ordinator.
In amongst all the crazy hours of work teaching singing, and running the program Erin had her first baby, Thomas (now 10!!) and soon realised her passion lied within early childhood education.
Back to studies again, Erin started her Bachelor in Early Childhood Education and Care, relishing in her love for young children and music!
With the birth of her beautiful God Daughter Mackenzie who is deaf, Erin decided she needed to expand her knowledge of KWS, learn more of the Deaf community and further learn the language of Auslan, ensuring that everyone can be included no matter what.
When the opportunity came up for Erin to teach music within the Early Childhood sector, she jumped at it! This was absolutely her life goal and she hasn't looked back since!
Since starting teaching music over 10 years ago, Erin has had 3 more babies (now 6, 5 and 2 months old!) and is absolutely loving her career and family life more than she ever thought possible! Bring on all the music and messy play!!
And this is where the story continues...
'They say, if you love your work you'll never work a day in your life... If that's true, I definitely don't work! because this is my absolute passion, and I couldn't ask for a better place to be!'
This is the beautiful girl, who has given me my love and passion for Auslan and the Deaf community.
She has in her own way, taught and given me more than I could ever could have imagined and I will forever be by her side to make sure she kicks butt!
It is so important for all children to be included and for no child to ever be left behind.
By teaching the children, educators and families Auslan/KWS we are one step closer to ensuring that every child has a voice and is able to express their needs and wants - regardless of whether they are deaf or hearing.
Mackenzie, you have given me the strength and confidence to push for a better more inclusive community and you have taught me SO much!
for that, I am forever grateful to you.
